MsNB TECHNOLOGY

What is it? MsNB is a Molten Salt Nuclear Battery. Based on the technology developed and operated at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the 1960s , the MsNB design advances the nuclear micro reactor technology with through design simplicity, reliability and safety.

The Terminology

MicroReactor

Modular-type reactor of less than 20MW

Molten Salt

Salt mixtures include fluoride, sodium, lithium, and for MsNB dissolved fuel, that provides a stable liquid at very high temperatures, and atmospheric pressure.

Fuel Cycle

Reactor battery returned to reprocessing facility to recover usable fuel. 95% of the fuel is still available at the end of 10 years!

MSNB THERMODYNAMIC SCHEMATIC OVERVIEW

The schematic illustrates how the fission energy generated in the reactor core can be transferred to an energy conversion unit to generate electricity. The reactor heat can also be used directly for other uses such as chemical or hydrogen production.
